Dr. Olorunjuwon Omolaja Bello is an Associate Professor of Microbiology whose journey through academia has been marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge, dedication to teaching, groundbreaking research, and exemplary service to the academic community. Born and raised in Nigeria, Dr. Bello's educational voyage commenced at Alubarika Primary School in Bariga, Lagos, where he laid the foundation for his academic prowess. He proceeded to St. Luke’s Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos, where his passion for science began to blossom. His formal higher education journey kicked off at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo-State, Nigeria, where he obtained a National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology. Driven by his thirst for knowledge, he pursued further studies at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria. There, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, followed by a Master of Science degree, and culminating in a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Microbiology. Dr. Bello's academic journey is not confined to Nigeria. He embarked on numerous academic sojourns and research ventures across international borders, including postdoctoral research stints at prestigious institutions such as the University of Chester, UK, and McGill University, Canada. He earlier undertook his doctoral research activities in South Africa at North-West University, where he later became a member and visiting research fellow at the Microbial Biotechnology Unit. Throughout his career, Dr. Bello has demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence, earning numerous distinctions and awards, including fellowship and research grants. His contributions to academia extend beyond research, as evidenced by his dedicated service in various capacities within departments, faculties, and universities both in Nigeria and abroad. As a member of several professional bodies, including the American Society for Microbiology, British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Applied Microbiology International, Nigerian Bioinformatics and Genomics Network, and International Society for Infectious Diseases. Dr. Bello remains actively engaged in the global scientific community. His prolific publication record reflects his significant contributions to advancing knowledge in microbiology and related fields. Dr. Bello's research interests span a wide range of topics, including antimicrobial resistance, medical/pharmaceutical microbiology, microbial biotechnology, food safety, and public health microbiology. Dr. Bello is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of scientists. He has supervised numerous graduate and undergraduate students, guiding them toward academic success and instilling in them a passion for scientific inquiry.
